Food security and food safety are increasingly recognized as interconnected pillars of public health, sustainable development, and resilient food systems. Recent research highlights that modern food systems face growing pressure from climate variability, supply chain disruption, microbial contamination, food fraud and unequal access to safe and nutritious food. In response, this paper argues that strengthening food security and safety requires a combined approach that integrates preventive control, smart monitoring and system-wide risk management.
This conference paper reviews recent literature and emerging practices in food security and food safety, with particular attention to digital traceability, and early warning systems. The findings suggest that advanced technologies, including data-driven monitoring and intelligent decision-support tools, can improve the detection of hazards, reduce contamination risks, and support faster response to safety threats. At the same time, the literature shows that technology alone is insufficient without strong governance, workforce training, regulatory compliance and consumer awareness.
A key insight from the reviewed studies is that resilience depends on both prevention and adaption. Food safety interventions are most effective when they are embedded across the production-to-consumption chain rather than applied only at the final stages. Similarly, food security improves when safety, affordability, availability and accessibility are addressed together. Based on these findings, a practical framework is proposed for conference discussion, linking risk identification, monitoring indicators, intervention priorities and policy support.
