Iceball is a new ice-based team sport inspired by ice hockey and football, played on a large ice surface using airborne passing techniques. Teams aim to score in circular goals positioned 34 meters above the ice, using a specially designed ball for aerial control. Players are prohibited from passing the ball while it remains on the ice, and strict safety zones are enforced to minimize collisions. The study outlines 25 rules covering gameplay mechanics, team composition, fouls, penalties, and performance incentives. Skillful goals, including technical, acrobatic, and long-range actions, are rewarded by deducting negative points, promoting higher-level engagement. Iceball also emphasizes inclusivity, especially for girls and women, and aligns with sports medicine and health promotion goals. Using applied research, the sport was developed by analyzing ice hockey principles and safety standards to ensure feasibility. Its innovation lies in integrating traditional ice-based gameplay with modern performance mechanisms, offering recreational and competitive opportunities in cold climates where ice sports are underrepresented. Iceball has the potential to diversify ice sports and attract spectator interest, fostering social interaction and community engagement.
