  • چکیده مقاله

Feverfew (T. parthenium) is a herbal medicine with a traditional usage of treating a several disorders. Some investigations have demonstrated feverfew to be an effective remedy for the prophylactic treatment of women's ailments, inflammatory conditions, migraine, menstrual disorders and the production of prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotriens. Therefore, the study is arranged out to evaluate the testoprotective and testocurative potential of T. parthenium methanolic extract (TPME) on CCl4-induced oxidative trauma in testis. In this experimental protocol, male wistar rats were selected and divided into seven groups of six animals in each group. Group A served as a normal control for both prophylactic and curative studies and received 1 ml/kg distilled water for 14 days orally and on the 14th day olive oil (1.5 ml/kg, i.p.).Group B received 1 mL/kg distilled water orally for fourteen consecutive days. Groups C , D and E animals is pretreatment groups and were treated with three different doses of methanolic extract of T.parthenium (40 mg/kg, 80 mg/kg and 120 mg/kg, p.o ) respectively for fourteen days. All the groups exept group one, were also intoxicated with 1.5 ml CCl4 (i.p, in a 1:1 dilution with olive oile) on the 14th day. Groups F and G is post treatment groups and recived methanolic extract of T.parthenium (80 mg/kg and 120 mg/kg, p.o ) respectively at 2, 6, 24 and 48h after CCl4 injection. Results of the present investigation revealed that injection of CCl4 significantly (p < 0.001) reduced antioxidant enzymes (SOD and GPx) and increased MDA when compared to the control group. Co-administration of TPME significantly (p <0.05) improved these alterations near to control rats. From the results it is suggested that TPME has the ability to protect testis against oxidative damages, possibly through antioxidant effects of its bioactive compounds.
