Fowl hunting of scorpion led to the general belief in the non-toxicity of the scorpion venom for them. In this study, the clinical effects of Mesobuthus eupeus and Hemiscorpius lepturus scorpion venom through oral administration in chickens and one species of mammals (mice) evaluated. In addition, we compared the lethal dose of intravenous administration of Mesobuthus eupeus venom in these species. Sixteen adult mice and chickens were divided into four groups. M.eupeus and H. lepturus venom were administrated in 4 doses of 1, 3, 5 and 10 mg to mice groups and 3, 6, 15 and 30 mg to chicken groups. The signs were recorded at intervals of 0,
15, 30, 60, 120, 240 minutes, 24, and 48 hours, and 0.5 mL of venous blood with EDTA anticoagulant were collected from chickens for hematological analysis. In order to achieve approximate lethal dose, increasing amount of M.eupeus venom was injected into mice and chickens intravenously. According to the results, oral administration of venom was not associated with any clinical symptoms. In hematological examination, the number of lymphocytes in chicken blood samples decreased and the number of heterophils increased after 120 minutes. The Lethal dose was recorded as 4.5 and 15 mg / kg for mice and poultry, respectively. In conclusion, resistance to the oral entry of scorpion venom is not limited to poultry, because this matter was also observed in mice.
